Create a Bootable Windows 10 and Fresh Install

For those not lucky enough to have a 100Mb fiber connection to the internet but work or a friend does, Microsoft has a tool that will let you create a Windows 10 bootable USB drive or an ISO.

Download the tool

  • Using the above links download the appropriate version, there are two versions of the tool, 32-bit and a 64-bit operating system.

  • Once downloaded press Run.

  • From the options select Create installation media for another PC.


  • Use this table to choose the edition of Windows 10 that you want to create media for.

  • After the download is complete, verified and the media is created, click Finish.



To run a clean install of Windows 10

  • Insert the DVD or USB flash drive you just made, and turn on your PC

  • Press the key to boot from the DVD or USB flash drive. (Such as F2, F12, Delete, or Esc)

  • Now your on the Install Windows page enter your language and other preferences.

  • Press Next.

  • Select Install Windows.

  • On the Enter the product key page enter your product key you have for windows 7 or 8.

It should look like this: W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won’t have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer. (Ref: Microsoft Upgrade Notes)
  • Select I accept the license terms (assuming you do, thats up to you) Press Next.

  • Which type of installation do you want?  select Custom.

  • Where do you want to install Windows?  select the partition that you want to install onto, select the formatting option you want to perform

  • When you’ve finished formatting, press Next.

  • Follow the rest of the setup instructions to finish installing Windows.
