Interceptor

The idea behind the interceptor is for short term information gathering (Testing on personal network only only :P ). Best placed between workstation or printer and switch not switch and router. This is simply due to the limitation of available bandwidth. The wired network on the Fon+ is a 100Mb/s and top speed of the wireless is 54Mb/s, add on the overhead of wireless encryption and that rate drops down further.

A good use for the device would be to place between a printer and switch, and capture all printed documents. Or, go see a colleague , when they leave the room, drop it on there computer (With there permission).

The relative low cost of the Fon+ means the device can be considered disposable and if branded with the right stickers most users wouldn't think about an extra small box on the network.

I'm sure there are plenty more uses, if you come up with any good ones, let me know.

Equipment:

One Fon+ Router, But should in theory work on any device which will run OpenWrt and have minimum of 2 wires and one wireless output.

Download

The Interceptor comes as a single tarball which can be downloaded from here.

It also requires a number of extra packages to be installed on a base OpenWrt install, they can be found on the OpenWrt download page.

WARNING

Don't forget, the interceptor has no fail safe in case of problems. If the hardware or software fails the network connection being tapped will be lost. Don't use the Interceptor in situations where uptime is critical without knowing what you are doing.

Within the next few weeks i will write up a report on how i did the procedure and what the results where

Please keep tuned
